I read, ReWork, by Jason Fried, in one day.
No, it was not that good, it was just short. Really short. It took me 75 minutes to read.
The principles are sound:
- Eliminate the unnecessary
- Know why you are working on what you are working on
- Be simple
- Be you
- (My favorite) Just Start
If I read this a year ago I may have rated it 10/10. The problem is, for me, it repeats many ideas and principles that I have been hearing over and over from self-help and business books.
So it comes off (slightly) as a copy. But not a cheap copy. It is succinct and provides important ideas that should be implemented.
This is a great “starter” book for people that want to start a business or create something. It lays out the groundwork for deeper discussions in awesome books like The War of Art, and, Show Your Work.
So should you read this? I would say yes, but you may be disappointed if you have been reading self-help or business books for even a year.

Quotes I like
- What you do is what matters, not what you think or say or plan.
- It’s the stuff you leave out that matters. So constantly look for things to remove, simplify, and streamline. Be a curator. Stick to what’s truly essential.
- Try new things. No one knows you so it’s no big deal if you mess up. Obscurity helps protect your ego and preserve your confidence.
